Pros: Much better than paper filters, and it lasts a long time. Very effective filtering of coffee grounds.
Cons: Eventually, the gold mesh can separate at the bottom, so you know it's time to replace.

Pros: The filter fits my Cuisinart 12 cup maker fine. Check the info on the model #s that this unit fits. This is the #6 cone style, not to be used w/ 4-cup or smaller models that take the #4 cone. The filter pays for itself by the time you have made about 100 pots. It does make a stronger brew than the paper filters, so you can use about a tablespoon less for half a pot / 6 cups, etc. I also have the 4 cup unit and it is also better w/ the gold filter. Of course you have to clean it / rinse it after each use... takes about 30 seconds to dump grounds and rinse out. It's worth the little extra trouble IMHO. That's the only possible drawback. I have used these gold filters for years and have never had one pass grounds into the coffee. I can't say that for the paper filters 100%.
Cons: Just the extra possible mess you could make if you get sloppy with it.

Pros: Great because it will last for 5 yrs or more.
No paper filters needed, so less to go to a landfill.
Easy to dump the grounds and if you have a garden, coffee grounds are great for the soil.
Cons: Need to dump the filter in the garbage and need to make sure you get most of the grounds due to a septic tank.
Other thoughts: I could not find these filters in the stores in West Bend, WI. Glad to get it on-line and have it shipped. Sure made it easy.

Pros: Uses less coffee
Coffee has more bite
Cons: Another item to wash
Other thoughts: Buy more than one so you don't have to wash just one all the time. Costs the same as using paper filters and tastes better. I save a bag of coffee a month since I need less coffee with a gold filter.
