LG OLED Flex Review

The LG OLED Flex is a new 42-inch bendable TV in LG’s 2023 OLED TV lineup, with the unique ability to curve its screen. As an OLED Flex TV, it can go from being flat, so you can sit back and watch a movie, to a curve that goes all the way to 900R curvature for extreme comfort, thus allowing for many different viewing angles. With it’s curved screen, a gorgeous 42” screen size fantastic picture quality, this niche OLED Display (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) becomes a great gaming monitor and/or TV Monitor. It is extremely versatile.

There are several different preset picture modes to choose from, each one with a description of what picture features that mode relates to. The LG OLED Flex is a Smart TV utilizes LG’s WebOS software, as found on LG OLED Evo. This is comparable to built in operating system’s like the Samsung Tizen software. This opens your TV up to built in streaming services as well as other productivity and gaming apps.

This software has integrated apps that allow for connectivity to some great streaming services. With it’s ability to show 4K UHD content at unbelievable refresh rate of 120 FPS, this cute little device has some of the specs and features found in upper echelon TV’s from LG like the highly touted and reviewed LG C2 (LG’s flagship TV prior to this years C3).

With it’s durable and ergonomic design, you can get to your optimal viewing angle with the touch of a button on the Magic Remote from LG. No need to get off the couch or recliner to manually curving the screen, so quite a bit of guess work and back and forth should not be needed.

• High Dynamic Range TV’s has several different recording formats that they can accurately portray. The LG Flex comes with support for HDR 10, HLG (often used by over the air channels to produce their HD content, which let’s this be used as a tuner as well).

• There is support for Dolby Vision as well. Dolby Vision is the pinnacle of TV watching standards in todays’ time found on class leading OLED Screens and QD-OLED Screens. Dolby Vision charges a licensing fee, thus is found on fewer TV’s than HDR. This is not your typical IPS panel.
• Beautiful curved display for amazing viewing angles and immersion.
• Amazing audio support for Dolby Atmos which is the newest sound codec found in Theaters like it’s competitor DTS: X. Dolby Atmos will give the viewer the most awe inspiring surround sound reproduction when attaching the LG Flex to a soundbar or compatible A/V receiver. Many of the soundbar’s on the market today carry support for Dolby Atmos, so don’t feel locked into a corner into purchasing a full A/V receiver and multiple speakers.

Gaming

Believe it or not the LG OLED Flex is amazing for gamers as well. When used as a gaming monitor, with it’s immersive curved screen, aspect ratio and 4K UHD capabilities, your games will pop with vibrancy and color. As an Xbox owner, (or if you own a gaming console from a different manufacturer), we cannot express the importance of the specs and features that we are looking for to get the most immersive

Inputs and Connectivity

On the included remote which resembles the LG’s Magic Remote, there’s a control for bending the display. This will allow you to adjust the curvature to your desired specs. Different presets can be assigned for multiple curvature options, thus allowing for both alternative angles for either yourself or multiple individuals.

An HDMI 2.1 with eARC (or Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is available. So this OLED TV can be connected to your favorite soundbar or A/V receiver. It can even be connected to a laptop (such as ones made by ASUS among others) to be used as an external display through the HDMI 2.1 port. Smartphone connectivity is available as is bluetooth 5.0 (so attach a bluetooth operable headset like Apple AirPods) and Wi-FI 6 or Wi-Fi AX (the newest standard prior to Wi-Fi 6E). You can wire in a headphone via the 3.5 mm jack if desired. There is also a versatile display port if using something other than an HDMI cable.

By connecting the LG Flex to the newer Wi-Fi 6 standard, a marked improvement on low latency, super speed connections to the internet are now at your fingertips. This is great for streaming Movies and TV as well as for gaming. *Please note: Wi-Fi speeds have several variables such as your modem and router and ISP provider. Ensure that you have the proper router which can accommodate Wi-Fi AX.
