Halloween is the ideal time to host a movie–night party. Whether planning a mildly scary night of kid-friendly movies, or an adult scream fest, we’ve got it all covered with these tips on how to throw a wicked Halloween movie night bash.
Invitations
Kids’ Night- Start this spooky event off right by sending Halloween themed invitations for your movie-night. Indicate on the invitations if you want the children to dress up in their Halloween costumes for the party, or in pajamas if you are planning on this being a sleepover as well.
Adult Night-The invitations for your adult party should be a little spookier looking. They could even be made up to look like they are covered in dripping blood if you are wanting to go for the ultimate horrifying theme. Again, indicate how you want your guests to dress for the party: Halloween costume, favorite horror movie character, or pajamas.
Viewing Area
A big screen HDTV is ideal for this night of fright-fest viewing. This 70-inch Sharp Smart TV with 4K Ultra HD resolution from Buydig.com will have everyone from the little kids to the adults excited to watch their favorite Halloween flicks. If your spooky thrillers come in 3D, try one of the many 3D TVs from Buydig.com like the Samsung 85-inch 4K Ultra HD smart 3D LED HDTV. You and your guests will be able to feel the drama of blacker blacks and brighter brights while watching Papa Drac get his groove on in Hotel Transylvania 2, or Jason chase after an unsuspecting teenager in the woods during Friday the 13th.
Ambience
Of course you can’t watch scary movies with the lights on! Make sure you dim the lights or turn them completely off during the showings. Have big comfy pillows or beanbags all around the room for lounging, and some pillows or stuffed animals for grabbing and holding during the scariest parts of the movies. Make sure you have plenty of big, cozy blankets to curl up in as well. What would a Halloween movie night be without scary decorations? Hang bats and skeletons around the room, set jack-o-lanterns and candelabras all around, and string cotton spider webs in every corner and across multiple pieces of furniture. Make the level of spookiness age appropriate according to your guests of course.
Movies
Kids’ Night-
About a week before your movie marathon, gather about 9-10 kid friendly Halloween favorites. Have it on hand from the list below. On the big movie night, let the kids vote on and decide the top 3 or 4 movies to be watched.
Hotel Transylvania, Hotel Transylvania 2, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,
Hocus Pocus, Casper, the Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters (1984), The Addams Family (1991), Halloweentown, The Haunted Mansion, Monster House, Scared Shrekless, Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone, Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein, and Monsters Inc.
Adult Night- Email your friends about a week ahead of time. Ask them their choices of the scariest movies of all time. After you get their responses, compile a list of the top 10 and have them vote for the two or three movies they want to watch. Don’t reveal the winners until everyone arrives on movie night to add to the suspense of the evening.
Snacks
Kids’ Night- What would movie night of any kind be without snacks? For a Halloween themed movie night for kids, the snacks need to fit the theme. Also, have it be age appropriate. Not too scary for younger kids, and just the right amount of slime and creepiness for the older kids. Some festive snacks could include pumpkin, ghost, and bat shaped cookies. Also, lollipops wrapped in tissues resembling ghosts, rice cereal treats colored like pumpkins or candy corn. You can even try cheesy breadstick bones with bloody marinara dipping sauce, and green witch’s brew punch in a cauldron.
Adult Night- You can make the snacks for an adult version of movie night as low key as you want. Or as grotesque as desired. Try anything from bloody cranberry or pomegranate juice. Also, blood red velvet cake dripping in “bloody” icing to cookie “lady fingers” with almond sliver finger nails. Try freezing green-tented water in a rubber glove. Remove the glove and place the frozen Zombie hand in a bowl of red punch for a chilling affect. Edible mummies made from hot dog wieners and crescent rolls are always a crowd favorite too.
With these ghoulish tips, you’ll have your guests screaming for more this Halloween!
