Fujifilm cameras is here with it’s newest model in the X series of cameras, with the latest announcement of it’s new camera, the Fujifilm X100VI. This digital camera is the latest in Fujifilm x100 series of great APS-C cropped cameras, that provides supreme high quality resolution. It is different than the full frame Fujifilm GFX cameras. The 23.5mm x 15.7mm (APS-C) X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor with primary color filter produces over 40 million effective pixels for tremendous image quality. You can Use the .05” EVF or electronic viewfinder to compose beautiful shots as with the flip out LCD screen. So you can hold the camera at an angle that fits your shooting needs and concentrate on the exposure through the EVF or the LCD screen and not take your eyes off the scene. The camera than becomes a sort of hybrid viewfinder as you can switch the EVF, and what the sensor sees, and OVF, which also shows what’s outside the frame not just in the sensor. This great digital camera will compete with the likes of Canon, Nikon, Sony, Leica and others.
This camera is beautifully designed and ready for street photography. With it’s 6 stops of image stabilization with IBIS or “In body image stabilization”, this camera is made for handheld photography as shake and blur which is often associated with handheld photography should be a thing of the past. You can attach a variety of lenses to this camera including a converter which will sit between the lens and the camera body to increase magnification.
The X-processor 5 contained on the Fujifilm X100VI is an upgrade over the 4th generation previous model of the processor. There is a reduction in power consumption over the previous generations of the Fujifilm X100V. You can record files in HEIF which are more space saving but still retain that higher resolution you are aiming for.
The aforementioned X-processor 5 uses a new advanced algorithm (AI) in it’s autofocus capabilities. It can easily detect animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects, and drones. Please mote that the camera needs to be set to “Bird” to detect birds and flying insects and to “Airplane” to detect drones in the sky.
These are just a few of the features and specs for this fantastic new camera that we will delve deeper into below.
What we love about this Camera
There is so much to love about this new camera that we must expound on the spectacular features and specs contained within.
The Fuji X100VI is supreme at taking high image quality and video recordings at up to 6.2K internally at 30p in 4:2:2 10-bit color.
With the built APS-C Sensor, the camera has the ability to show over 40 million megapixels with it’s 40mp sensor, so you get great exposures showing the individuality of each pixel and the vibrancy contained within.
The camera can shoot video in 4K resolution at 60FPS. It can also record in Full HD or 1080P recording in slow motion at 240 FPS. This super refresh rate will make a huge difference in the viewing experience on this upgrade from Fujifilm Camera in this FujiX series camera.
Improved subject tracking over the previous iteration, the Fujifilm X100V and over the Fujifilm X series in general. The tracking is extremely precise even with multiple subjects in your exposure.
Sample images are available from a plethora of cloud services. The X100VI supports Frame.Io Camera to Cloud natively. which means that you can easily upload your images and videos to the cloud directly from the camera. Then easily upload them to social media like TikTok or
If you attach the AR-X100 adapter ring which allows 49mm filters which includes the ND filter found with this new camera to be attached.
There is no reason to worry about harsh weather conditions and elements and protecting the camera, as the adapter ring and PRF-49 combine for superb weather resistance. It can repel dust and moisture all the way down to 32 degrees.
This camera is also great for shooting in low light conditions. Make sure that you flash is appropriately set for these environments.
The compatible WCL-X100 II wide conversion lens multiplies the magnification of the fixed focal length by .08x. This lens is sold separately from the camera.
The Fujifilm X100VI is also capable of handling the TCL-X100 II tele conversion lens, which multiples the set focal length to an even greater magnification of 1.4x the fixed lens focal length.
The rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery is rated for approximately 450 frames of shooting. While this is great battery life, We do recommend purchasing a spare battery for long photography sessions, and the peace of mind that comes with having a backup battery.
There are plenty of Film Simulation modes with the aforementioned software like Reala Ace and others, provides over 20 different simulation modes. These include 20 different simulation modes include (PROVIA/Standard, Velvia/Vivid, ASTIA/Soft, Classic Chrome, REALA ACE, PRO Neg.Hi, PRO Neg.Std, Classic Neg., Nostalgic Neg., ETERNA/Cinema, ETERNA BLEACH BYPASS, ACROS, ACROS + Ye Filter, ACROS + R Filter, ACROS + G Filter, Black & White, Black & White + Ye Filter, Black & White + R Filter, Black & White + G Filter, Sepia).
The included lens hood provides a reduction in lens flare and glare found on on cameras and lenses.
The Fujifilm X100VI comes with IBIS or in body image stabilization for wonderful compensation to the shake and blur normally associated with handheld shooting. The X-processor 5 uses an advanced algorithm in it’s autofocus capabilities. It can easily detect animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects, and drones. This makes the camera great for street photography. Thank you X-Trans 5 processor.
A flip out LCD rangefinder is also present making your photography session that much easier as you can use the LCD screen to concentrate on your photography scene without distraction.
There is a single memory card slot on the X100VI rated for SD, SDHC, and SDXC media, the slot is also UHS-I compatible. Therefore with the combined storage capacity of the memory card and the ability to upload directly to the cloud, there should be ample storage options for all of your still photos and videos.
Want to upload your exposures to social media? Use FUJIFILM XApp in conjunction with this camera, for easy and quick file sharing between your camera and your smartphone. You can also use Fuji app for additional editing and post processing.
Configurable buttons and custom dials can be found on the camera (giving it sort of a retro look). This also makes the ease of use for the X100VI so simplistic, even for beginners.
Ability to record in RAW format for photos so you can add even more personal touches and changes in post processing than over a normal JPEG image file.
Can record in the HEIF (High Efficiency) file storage format. You may find this recording standard on your smartphone like an iPhone to help conserve onboard storage. These are recorded without loss of quality.
A great new autofocus system with Single AF, continuous AF and an intelligent Hybrid Autofocus system assist with subject face, eye and animal detection as well.
ISO sensitivity is rated at ISO125~12800 during normal output but can be lengthened during extended output. ISO will be controlled automatically with the autofocus system, but we still recommend shooting in manual mode as this will give you more control over all the specific settings of the camera.
The shutter speed can be controlled via a mechanical shutter an electronic shutter or a combination of the two for photos and movies.
The hybrid viewfinder has a Magnification of approximately x0.52 and up to x0.56 with the EVF or Electronic viewfinder and the OVF the Optical viewfinder. Use the 3” tilting LCD screen and with a 3:2 approximate ratio for ease of use as well.
With available touchscreen controls during playback you can swipe, pinch, double tap and drag to focus in on specific points of your exposure.
Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi AC is included for connectivity as is Bluetooth standard 4.2. The Wi-Fi 5 standard gives you access to the faster 5 Ghz band for faster uploading of exposures to social media and file transfers.
A USB-C port as well as a micro HDMI port are available for easy wired connectivity to peripherals like a monitor or TV. The USB-C can support fast charging.
There is should be a firmware upgrade out of the box for this lightweight and compact camera. You should install the new firmware prior to using your new camera.
