Back when Google decided to map the world in order to push GPS with navigation out for the masses, they knew that they would need to send cars out down every street in order to get their street-view data for their ambitious Google Maps. However, finding people to drive down every single road on planet Earth was a bit beyond difficult and into impossible territory. So, they developed a way to control cars without necessarily having a driver have to operate them normally. In time, they refined this technology to the point of where, today, the talk is all about having autonomous and completely driverless cars where operators can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Much also depends on the average consumer. Unlike the issue with flying cars where the laws of physics and the Federal Aviation Administration are standing in the way, driverless car technology depends largely on the consumer adopting it. So, would you purchase a driverless car? Why or why not? What do you think about this technology? Is it useful or useless? Will it be beneficial or detrimental to safety ratings?
