The DJI Mini 3 Pro is hands down one of the best if not the best portable drone on the market. It is so much fun to pilot and simple to operate. From the moment you turn it on and watch it’s propellor arms extend into flight position, you know you have a special little flying machine.
The DJI Mini 3 pro vs Mini 2 comes reimagined with massive upgrades. Presenting a new design, added shooting features, a new transmission system, additional safety measures, and more power, the Mini 3 Pro takes leaps above its predecessors.
This is a one for all and all for one drone. Meaning, it’s simply ideal for every type of pilot and can perform almost any drone project you can think of. The DJI Mini 3 Pro produces exceptionally beautiful imagery and film that can be applied to business and pleasure while its True Vertical Shooting makes the Mini 3 Pro particularly perfect for content creators.
The Design
Reimaged with an innovative design, the Mini 3 Pro features a new aerodynamic wind resistant body tilt and chassis with larger propellors which create a more stable and smooth flying experience. DJI also added a new powerful obstacle sensing system which increases flight time and safety from collision or connectivity failure.
DJI completely redid the gimble unlike any other drone by placing it underneath the chassis vs above it and added a small notch in the chassis. With this small change DJI was able to increase the rotation range for low angle shots. It’s Genius.
There is a lot of power packed into this tiny aircraft. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is extremely lightweight weighing only 249g, so it is very comfortable to carry. It is also compact and portable with retractable propellor arms when it’s not in use which reduces it to a size that would even fit in your pocket.
The size and weight are also under most flying regulations around the world which means the DJI Mini 3 would be exempt from registration and inspection. You should always double check to ensure you are compliant with your locations laws when flying drones.
Specs
Achieve dazzling photography and immersive videography with the DJI Mini 3 Pro’s updated camera. The powerful 1/1.3-inch CMOS imaging sensor (by the way this is larger vs Air 2s 1” sensor) coupled with a 24mm equivalent lens shoots 4K 60fps standard video and 4k 30fps HDR videos. When shooting in 4k 60fps, you can slow down your video during postproduction. You can also record in 1080p at 120fps.
In addition to the standard color profile, the DJI Mini 3 Pro also offers D-Cinelike in 10-Bit. This is a particularly amazing feature if you like to enhance your material. D-Cinelike creates a flat profile to work with while providing more visual information to enable richer color possibilities and flexibility with your images and video.
As far as stills go, the DJI Mini 3 Pro produces amazingly vivid photography in JPEG/DNG (RAW) which also enables more possibilities when editing postproduction. The Mini 3 Pro uses a 4 in 1 pixel technology which creates images from 48MP to 12MP with single pixels as large as 2.4 microns.
Wherever and whenever you may be shooting, whether it be day or night, the Mini 3 Pro will perform well under any environmental or lighting conditions. And thanks to its dual native ISO chip level HDR tech, the Mini 3 can produce and finalize your material very quickly.
Battery and Signal Transmission
The DJI Mini 3 Pro can achieve flight times of up to 34 minutes using the Intelligent Flight Battery. For extended flight times, you can use the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus which has about 50% more power capacity over the standard Intelligent Flight Battery (The Plus offers 3850 mAh vs 2453 mAh).
The signal transmission system on the Mini 3 Pro uses DJI’s latest OcuSync 3 transmission system. The new transmission system allows for smooth communication of 1080/30fps live feed with a radius of up to 12km. This is the biggest difference between the DJI Mini 3 Pro vs Mini 3 standard. The Mini 3 (not Pro) uses DJI 02 signal feed, which is still a good transmission, it’s just not as good as the OcuSync 3.
Shooting Features
There are loads of new tools at your disposal with the Mini 3 Pro. Features such as ActiveTrack 4.0, Point of Interest 3.0, and Spotlight are new and included into the FocusTrack features. This enables you to perform arial moves to gain particular shots while also letting the Mini 3 Pro where to fly.
This is an especially great feature for content creators looking for “follow me” modes to capture their subjects in a variety of angles. For adventures or thrill seekers performing stunts in amazing sceneries, you couldn’t ask for more from a drone. The experience is thrilling and immersive for the viewer. The power is in your hands.
Mastershots shooting mode allows for a series of dynamic shots done automatically for you. Set the subject and mode and the drone will perform the moves. This includes wide angle, 180-degrees, vertical and sphere panorama shooting modes along with the popular Timelapse and Hyperlapse modes.
With a simple tap, you also have a series of Quickshot Modes such as Dronie, Helix, Rocket, Circle, and Boomerang which performs the designated maneuver while locked onto your subject.
Obstacle Avoidance, Safety Features, and Sensor System
Safety is critical when operating your drone. More to protect the drone itself than anything, it is an investment, and you want to protect it. Well, DJI has that in mind and loaded the Mini 3 Pro with a tri directional obstacle sensing system with dual front sensors that can look forward and backwards with another set on the bottom. These “eyes” in conjunction with the Mini 3 Pro’s APAS 4.0 (Advanced Pilot Assistance System) can detect objects in your Mini 3 Pro’s flight path in real time. This feature can be set to automatically fly around recognized obstacles or just stop cold. You also can turn this off completely if you’re feeling confident enough in your flying skills.
The Mini 3 Pro is reliable and simple to operate with an Auto Takeoff function and Smart RTH (Return to Home) functions ensuring you always keep your drone safe, even if you may be new to flying a drone. Some of these features will send the Mini 3 Pro back to its home starting location if certain risk factors are met like low battery or a loss of transmission. The Mini 3 Pro also uses the GNSS navigation systems which are much better than your average GPS. This lets the drone hover with stability and accuracy since it uses the GNSS with downward vision and infrared seeing systems.
Availability and Price
The Mini 3 Pro is one great little drone that will meet your needs. It offers quite a bang for your buck too and is pound for pound one of the best values for the money. It is available in a drone bundle with the RC-N1 remote for $759.
There is also a fly more combo accessory addon with extra batteries, a 2-way charging hub, and extra components.
