Turn your own backyard and backyard playground into an outdoor paradise this summer, adding beauty, comfort and functionality without having to spend a lot. We have ideas to help you create an economic outdoor retreat that will make your family want to enjoy a staycation instead of traveling on a vacation this summer.
First Things First
You’ll want to start off with a clean slate so to speak. Begin by cleaning up all those leftover leaves you may have missed last fall. The Sun Joe Cordless Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher’s 3-in-1 design allows for fast leaf cleanup. Also, clean any hard surfaces such as patios, decks, and walls with a pressure washer like the Sun Joe Pressure Joe Electric Pressure Washer from Buydig.com.
Seating Areas
Create this simple couch by painting 12 cinder blocks and staining four 2X2 pieces of lumber cut to the length you desire. Stack four of the blocks at one end where you want to place your couch, and six blocks at the other end, leaving enough room for the wood slats to stick out of the ends about 4 inches. Have someone hold up the slats at the other end while you slide the last two blocks onto them. You can leave it like this, or add chair cushions for a softer couch. Create ottomans to use as seats or to go with your couch and chairs out of rope and recycled tires. All you need to do is crisscross rope across the opening by wrapping it around the tire several times to make it sturdy. Then wrap and glue rope around until completely covered.
DIY Planters
Create these cinder block planters to coordinate with your cinder block couch. You can choose to leave them plain, or paint them to match your couch. Simply drop in some gravel or small pebbles for drainage, and fill with potting soil. Insert your favorite plants and enjoy.
You cut down that huge oak tree last fall with your Sun Joe 16-inch Cordless Chain Saw. But you still have that unsightly tree trunk in the middle of your yard. Use that trunk to add some color while at the same time hiding the trunk by planting colorful flowers inside and around the trunk. Simply drill holes in the wood with the Stanley Black & Decker PC 6 Amp Var Speed Drill, add soil, and plant. You’ll have a free and all natural planter.
Bigger Projects Made Easy
There’s nothing more relaxing than the family gathering around the campfire heating up s’mores and telling ghost stories. Add a fire pit to your landscaping without having to spend money on gravel and landscaping blocks. Instead, get this 30” Steel Fire-Pit from Buydig.com and keep yourself from having to do all that digging,
It’s almost summer, so no doubt the kids are already begging for a pool. However, there just isn’t enough wriggle room in the budget for an in ground pool. No worries, we have the pool for you. Not only is the Intex 10-foot X 30” Inflatable Pool an inexpensive way to take the plunge this summer, it’s also an easy DIY project that you can set up in one afternoon.
Take your backyard from boring and bland to a space where you can relax or entertain without breaking the bank. Another good thing about these DIY projects is that you can complete them over the weekend!

Optical Illusions are a great way to improve your backyard without going over budget. You can use some small tricks to add a new look and dimension, like bright colours. They draw your eyes to an area, enhancing it and placing other elements in the shadows.
